Protection status:

  • Nature Reserve (Reserva Natural de la Laguna de Fuente de Piedra, Reserva Natural de las Lagunas de Campillos), RAMSAR Wetland, Special Bird Protection Area (ES0000033)

The Laguna de Fuente Piedra is a must for Great Flamingos watching during all the year.

Other common species all year around are Black-winged Kites, Black-winged Stilts, Avocets, Stone-curlews, Kentish Plovers, Purple Swamphens and Cetti’s Warblers. We can enjoy a very interesting variety of waders during the passage period.

In winter, thousands of Cranes roost at the banks of the lake, where Shelducks, Shovelers and Teals are abundant.

The nearby pools around the village of Campillos will bring us the opportunity to observe a number of ducks, with Red-crested Pochards and White-headed Ducks starring the exhibition.

The farmlands house Crested and Calandra Larks, Corn Buntings, Red-legged Partridges and Little Bustards and provide the Montagu’s Harriers with a perfect place to nest.

Trip duration: Half day (only for trips from Antequera) or Full day (Laguna de Fuente de Piedra or Laguna de Fuente de Piedra + El Torcal)
